Loft Conversion & Extension

A substantial renovation and an extension were planned for a two storey residential property in Scarborough. The loft space was to be converted into a useable living area with two large dormer windows, rooms were to be opened up within the lower floors, and a new garden room and garage were added at the rear of the property. We modelled the roof in our structural software and designed it as a steel frame supported on the external walls. The foundations were checked and increased where required to support the additional loading. Steel connections for the frame were designed and drawings produced.

Where walls were to be removed, steel beams were used to support the floor and wall loading above. This was made particularly complicated as many internal walls did not line up through the building and were generally supported on the timber floors. An oak frame was designed for the new garden room and garage.
