No. 1 - Highway Works £500k
Our client came to us not only worried about the financial outcome of this project but concerned about his reputation in view of the negative press he was getting both with the public and within the employer’s organisation. There were many stakeholders involved in this reorganisation of rail, bus, taxi and pedestrian traffic in a very busy city location.
This was an ECC Option B contract and our client admitted that he did not have the necessary in-house skills to deal with a very experienced consultant acting as supervisor. The deadline for the imposition of £500 per day LD’s was fast approaching and, despite the employer ordering substantial additional works, no changes to the completion date had been made.
We provided sufficient staff on site and in our offices to make a rapid, in-depth analysis of the effects of compensation events on the completion date. We also put in a huge effort in a short space of time on agreeing the mechanism for handling the assessment of compensation events as they affected prices.
The outcome in the space of 10-12 weeks was dramatic. Not only was a four month change to the completion date agreed but the anticipated final account turned the project round from a potential large and debilitating loss to a comfortable profit. Of equal importance in our client’s eyes was the complete change round in the perception of our client’s abilities for construction and administration of this type of contract.
Within the employer’s and consultant’s organisations our professionalism engendered a new respect for our client which boded well for future relationships.
